For Employers

Employers have duties under the law regarding reporting and also have policies for how the organization views substance use and mental health disorders when they affect employees. The Nurse Assistance Network recommends that employers educate their supervisors to identify employees who may benefit from help, educate staff to reduce stigma and encourage support for recovery, and offer health benefits that cover substance use and mental health disorders.

Oregon Nurses Foundation offers Fit to Perform Safely supervisor skill training and employee education. To learn more, contact Dave Cadiz, Director of WorkHealthy Oregon by email.
